Harris Corp., the new owner of Leitch products, is shipping version 9.1 of Leitch’s VelocityHD nonlinear editing system with HDV support, variable frame-rate processing of Panasonic VariCam content and broadened SD format support. Version 9.1 supports direct IEEE-1394 ingest of both 1080i and 720p material from HDV devices, which can be mixed seamlessly with other HD formats on the timeline.
There is a lot here for VariCam fans, particularly support for the much-loved "overcranking" and "undercranking" of in-camera, off-speed effects. HD multicamera editing also got a boost, going from two camera angles to four.
Tapeless options have also increased: v.9.1 now has direct timeline support for DV25, and DVCPRO25 and DVCPRO50 content from Panasonic’s P2 cards. www.harris.com
