It hasn't taken long for the makers of high-end cinema tools to create new accessories for the variety of HDV video camcorders on the market. After supporting models from JVC and Sony, 16×9 and Alfred Chrosziel have turned to Canon's XL H1 HVC camcorder.
16×9, a distributor of film and video products based in Burbank, is now offering Chrosziel's HDV Mattebox Kit for 4×4/4×5.650 filters and the 4×4 Clamp-On Sunshade System for the Canon XL H1.
The new professional mattebox system's true 16:9 housing covers both 16:9 and 4:3. It has a filterstage for two filterholders (one 4×4 rotating and one 4×4/4×5.650 fixed), full-size French flag, 16:9 insert mask, and 110-72mm screw-in adapter ring. The mattebox comes with a center bracket and 1ightweight support rods for a secure mount.
Chrosziel's DV Follow Focus system can be added to provide the precise manual focus that's critical when working in the HDV format. Employing a unique direct-drive mechanism, there is no lag or backlash.
For fast-moving on-the-run shots, the Chrosziel 4×4 Clamp-On Sunshade System makes a lightweight, compact shading solution. The shade attaches directly to the front of the camera's 20X lens. It includes a 16:9/4:3 housing, full-size French flag, filterstage for two filterholders (one rotating and one fixed), and a 104:72mm step-down ring. An optional center bracket and lightweight support system are also available.
Chrosziel Matteboxes and Sunshade Systems are sold exclusively in the U.S. by 16×9 Inc. The basic HDV Mattebox Kit is now available at the introductory price of $1625. The kit including DV follow focus system is $3215. The introductory price of the 4×4 Clamp-on Sunshade System is $798.
