Inlet Technologies, a leading provider of advanced encoding solutions for digital media, announced today that it has commenced shipping a new version of its comprehensive encoding solution, Fathom 2.5. This latest product release is the result of Inlet’s ongoing response to customer needs, and its commitment to delivering breakthrough advancements for professional video production. With the ultimate goal of helping customers monetize their video content quickly and easily, Fathom 2.5 delivers a more powerful set of workflow tools, new encoding options and enhanced flexibility.
Fathom was the industry’s first real-time encoding solution for high definition (HD) content in the Windows Media Video and the SMPTE VC-1 formats. Combining hardware for speed, with analysis software for control, Fathom adds efficiencies to the video production process that enables high-quality output in less time. Inlet customers have leveraged these benefits in a range of applications, and realize a 4-6x faster turnaround for standard definition (SD) content and up to 40x faster for HD.
“Our clients expect very quick turnaround times, especially when we’re producing dailies,” said Michael Rebel, data manager, Modern VideoFilm. “Fathom has been an amazing tool for us in this regard ‘ speeding production times by at least 200%. Recently we have been producing WM9 files for Xbox game trailers ‘ a process that used to take 3 hours when using other encoding systems, and now takes us about 15 minutes with Fathom. Boosting client satisfaction is the main benefit, but of course we save time and resources as well.”
Another customer, MetaMedia Training International, has integrated Fathom in their production process for multi-media educational materials. "Fathom is a user-friendly encoder that gives me a high level of control, along with fast encoding speeds,” said Patrick Fisher, senior digital media specialist at MetaMedia Training International, Inc. “I now have the ability to adjust my encoding parameters and evaluate the results with Fathom’s graphical analytics tools, so I can maximize quality while striving for economical bit rates. Inlet Technologies is pushing the envelope for advanced encoding technology."
MPEG 2 file ingest, native encoding of interlaced content and AVISynth support are among Fathom 2.5’s capability enhancements. In addition, concurrent with this release, Inlet is offering a new cost-effective SD-only variant, available in most markets for under $10,000.
