Visit da Vinci (Booth SL713) to see the Resolve FX, Resolve DI, and Resolve RT systems. Resolve FX is an entry-level solution for file-based, nonlinear color enhancement and conforming work; Resolve DI is for digital intermediate projects calling for a substantial volume of color-look creation and conforming; and Resolve RT is the top-of-the-line system, with real-time image processing in film, digital intermediate, and video finishing applications. PowerGrid, da Vinci's programmable PowerPlant accelerator boards, delivers real-time, multilayered color correction on full-film-resolution images, and its Revival image restoration system is integrated into the Resolve suite. Also on display is an improved toolset for 2K Plus, including ColorTrace which enables update of CDLs (color decision lists) to automatically match any editorial changes made to the program material, four independent PowerVectors for quadrupling available defocus areas, and the Toolbox2 effects area that delivers image and matte defocus for both In Window and Out of Window corrections.
In a related move, da Vinci and SGI (Booth SL-3764) completed qualification testing of SGI InfiniteStorage Shared Filesystem CXFST on a SAN (storage area network) with da Vinci Systems' ResolveT digital mastering suite. The recently completed testing shows that, with the SGI CXFS filesystem, Resolve is able to run two streams of 2K data simultaneously in real time over a SAN using CXFS. SANs can be configured with CXFS to provide enough bandwidth to satisfy the needs of multiple Resolve systems as well as other editing, compositing, and creative tools in a facility.
Bluefish444 (Booth SL-778) will show Symmetry v3.0, a multiresolution, multiformat Digital Intermediate (DI) acquisition solution with a new UI, playlist for clip assembly, XML-based project saves, batch and export lists import and export and extended file format support. Symmetry is an Avid-certified DI solution for 4:4:4 DPX 10 bit RGB I/O and also supports Adobe Production Studio. New OEM developer solutions will also be announced, including extended OS support on multiple hardware platforms via Bluefish444's SDK. Quantel (Booth SL-1544) officially debuts Pablo, the company's “next generation” color correction system that was previewed in late 2005. Pablo features real-time 4K and Quantel's TimeMagic technology. Also on show in the DI area is the new iQ4, which brings real-time 4K to the mainstream DI process.
Bright Systems (Booth SL3800 with MTI Film) and (SL517 with Digital Vision) will demonstrate its new BrightDrive high performance shared media solutions across Ethernet and fibre channel networks as operators work on the same massive data files at the same time in any format up to (and beyond) 4K. Every installation includes the BrightDrive Data Management Suite, which is comprised of Data Mover, Data Optimizer and Data Wrangler, as well as secure, remote distributed system diagnostics for reliable and uninterrupted high performance.
FilmLight (Booth SL-1391) will launch Northlight 2, real-time 4K grading on Baselight Eight and new Truelight capabilities. The Northlight 2 scanner offers a four-times increase in scanning speed ‘ faster than two frames/second at 2K and 1 frame/second at 4K ‘ and includes infrared scanning, support for third-party dustbusting applications and archive/restoration. Baselight Four and Baselight Eight systems offering real-time 2K and 4K grading will be demonstrated, plus the Baselight Blackboard hardware control surface.
The Pixel Farm (Booth SL-3764) will debut Version 1.5 of PFClean, the image clean-up system for use with scanned image data prior to VFX, post production and DI. Version 1.5 adds support for QuickTime import and export, features improved automatic scratch-detection that was developed in conjunction with existing customers, as well as general UI and speed improvements. PFClean 1.5 is supported on Linux, Windows XP and Mac OX 10.4. Multi-processor single node license $22,499; unlimited multi-node rendering $7,999. Upgrades from version 1.0 are free. The Pixel Farm also announced the transition of its technologies to the new Intel based Mac platform.
MTI (Booth SL-3800) is introducing the 2K version of its Control Dailies, which will generate and resize DPX 2K files to HD and SD, and also features Control Color, a fully integrated primary color corrector with built-in still store co-developed with Silicon Color, creators of Final Touch.
