ROOT6 Technology is demonstrating "just in time transcoding" of DALSA Origin ® 4K files at NAB 2006 using the latest version of its universal encoding platform, ContentAgent-XR.

ContentAgent-XR is the world's first universal encoding platform capable of transcoding 4K resolution DPX files (up to 75MB per frame in 16-bit RGB) into all commonly used manageable file formats. The DALSA Origin is the world‚s first and only commercially available 4K cinematography camera.
ContentAgent-XR is designed to significantly streamline the process of converting, or „transcoding‰, digital motion picture content into any number of different file formats such that the content can be quickly and cost effectively reviewed and/or previewed by multiple users in multiple locations, on any number of different viewing or editing systems.
In a motion picture production environment, for example, where directors, producers and crew are required to review unedited footage on a daily basis to ensure it is acceptable before moving on to another location, ContentAgent-XR can transcode recently shot DALSA Origin footage (either on-set or in a post production facility), complete with metadata from the DPX header, within an hour of receiving it and deliver it securely to various users in their preferred file format through email, ftp, web or RSS. This "just in time" turn-around of review and preview footage takes several steps out of the traditional transcoding process, resulting in time and cost savings on-set and in post production.
"We're pleased to demonstrate ContentAgent-XR‚s ability to transcode 4K data from the Origin camera at NAB this year," said Marcus Hume-Humphreys, Managing Director of ROOT6 Technology. "Like DALSA, ROOT6 is proud to be taking the lead in moving 4K digital workflow into the mainstream."
"ContentAgent-XR represents a significant step forward in 4K digital workflow, and we expect it will be a real boon to productions using the Origin camera," said John Coghill, Vice-President and General Manager of DALSA‚s Digital Cinema division. "Not only does it significantly streamline the review and preview process, but it also provides the necessary hooks into all of the mainstream editing suites, which means that 4K Origin content, rich with metadata, can move into any number of post-production environments, quickly and cost effectively."
