After weeks of renovation on a new state-of-the-art Pro Tools HD-3 mix suite, Times Square’s full-service post facility, Editional Effects, is opening its doors to Dave Huston, the most recent addition to the team of audio engineers at EENYC. With Huston settled into Studio B, the trifecta of audio technicians is complete, allowing EENYC to offer an increased amount of mixing time with three highly-skilled engineers.
Originally from Portland, Oregon, Huston traveled cross country, bringing with him technical audio experience from both the music and audio-post world. Quickly working his way up the ladder at New York‚s world-renowned recording studio, The Hit Factory, Huston transitioned from assistant to engineer in a matter of months. At Hit Factory Huston worked with such A-list musical talents as Ashanti, Mariah Carey, Ja Rule, and LL Cool J.
When The Hit Factory closed its doors in early 2005, Huston joined Manhattan sound facility AudioEngine. He worked with a vast array of clients, including Saatchi & Saatchi, Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Kirshenbaum Bond + Partners, and Cliff Freeman and Partners, completing successful television spots for Reebok, Burger King, AFLAC, L‚Oreal, TBS, and many others.
In addition to television, Huston has mixed various freelance music and film projects. Most recently, he finished work on the documentary film High Score, the story of a man who attempts to break the world record of the classic arcade video game, Missile Command. The film screened at the 2006 South by Southwest film festival in Austin, TX and won the Audience Award in the Emerging Visions category. High Score gained notoriety and also screened at the 2006 Brooklyn Underground Film Festival.
Huston's talents also include music creation and composition, which were cultivated at Berklee College of Music. Here, he studied piano and graduated with high honors with a Bachelor‚s of Music in Music Production and Engineering. At Berklee, Huston received the MIX Magazine scholarship for excellence and also developed his musical abilities on drums and saxophone.
Highlighting the importance of his musical background for working in post production, Huston says, "I think being a musician and composer is a huge asset when mixing. Most spots contain music, and being able to add music or edit the music properly is extremely valuable."
"We knew Dave was the right fit for us because he has the right mix of technical expertise, creativity, and client savvy that is expected of all EENYC audio engineers. We have an A-list audio team, and Dave just completed it," says Roy Harter, Co-Owner of the Audio Division of EENYC.
Huston begins his Editional Effects career by mixing a long-running Nickelodeon project called "Let's Just Play," a national program that promotes healthy and active lifestyles in children. With Huston‚s diverse audio background, he is an invaluable creative asset to the team and will surely contribute to the high standard of audio expertise at EENYC.
