Nokia N92 DVB-H mobile media receiver

Bigger is better, but small is pretty slick

One day, it’s possible that the bulk of content streaming to mobile devices will be purpose-built, shot mainly in close-up with graphics, bugs and tickers all redesigned to pop on the small screen. But in the near term, companies like Nokia are looking to repurpose content from channels like CNN. Fortunately, nifty new devices like the one pictured here, slated to ship later this year as content comes online, make reading even the tiny news scroll at the bottom of the CNN frame a snap. It’s a DVB-H receiver with a 2.8-inch QVGA screen. No, watching a movie on your mobile phone isn’t going to be like seeing it on the big screen, or at a decent home theater. But if you missed an episode of 24 because you were too busy party-hopping at NAB, you know how compelling the whole idea of media to go is. And once gizmos like these are refined to perfection, you might be surprised at how good it gets.
