Harry Dorrington, creative director at rhinofx, steps up to answer Five Questions.
1. What are you working on today?
Finishing visual effects for The Nanny Diaries the film stars Scarlett Johanson and is based on the book. It's the first film that we have been involved in that has more than just a few shots. We are working on 50 shots. We were involved in every stage from storyboarding, pre-viz, shooting, CG, and compositing. It was a big learning curve for the studio compared to normal commercial production. As well as this I’m working on a character development for a large retail brand. I'm also working on a design job for a Sports product – so things are nice and varied at the moment.

2. What have you found is the best tool or innovation that has come out in the last year?
Probably the IMO Cap system developed by ILM for the Pirates of the Caribbean 2. But I like the look of Apple’s Iphone as well.

3. The project (film, television, commercial or music video) that most impressed you in the last year? Why?
300 – the art direction is fantastic. It really pushes the art of visual effects and what can be achieved in compositing.

4. The best or favorite project that you worked on in the past year? And why?
A commercial for Fruit of the Loom. It was designed to look like a videogame and featured a kid fighting off ninjas using his underwear. The project was a lot of fun as I was allowed to design everything, including a washing machine monster. That and my own project – a character animation piece that I am writing. It tells of the trials and tribulations of working in advertising. It’s really a way of venting my own frustrations as well as, hopefully, being entertaining.
