Throughout my 8 years of freelance editing, I never once found a job via an Internet posting or job board. I responded to several over the years, usually never getting any kind of response back. The few that did respond balked at the rate as they were usually wanting to pay $10 or $12 / hour. The pay was usually so low because the jobs were usually editing Internet video or some kind of live speaker. I’m certainly not saying that I am above editing Internet video or a live speaker but one point of gaining experience over the years is to leave the low paying jobs behind. But $12 / hour might be acceptable for and editor just starting out. Where does one look one the Internet for post production jobs?

In a recent forum post at Apple.com, a poster listed and linked to 6 different job boards. There are quite a few job boards out there and one reason the pay was so low for a number of the jobs I responded to might be that I was looking in and around Nashville. When you search the production hubs of New York or Los Angeles there are many more job postings. So if you are in or are wanting to move to one of the coasts then the internet job boards might be a good place to start. And don’t forget craigslist.org as they have classifieds for most major US cities with a tv / film / video category. Have you ever found a job through an internet posting? If so, please post in the comments below.
