Final Cut Pro 6.0.1, now with AVCHD support

avchd.jpgThe latest upgrade to Final Cut Pro, version 6.0.1 now supports capturing of AVCHD format video, but with more than a few catches. Functionality is a bit constricted, limiting AVCHD capturing to Intel-based Macs only, and it must be transcoded to the ProRes 422 codec or the Apple Intermediate Codec. Additionally, AVCHD video files must be captured in their entirety. For a full list of limitations, check out this official Apple document about transferring AVCHD footage. To download the upgrade, visit Apple’s update page. And for more information about AVCHD, check out this document.

Wow, I never imagined that Using HD would be that more difficult. Perhaps the probelm is the camcorder I purchased.
I have a Canon HF-100 with the dreaded AVCHD. I upgraded FCP to 6.0.1 studio 2 but when I put my card reader into the USB port, with FCP opened up, only iPhoto opens and then a window saying AVCHD is not supportd by PC based YadaYada?

What am I mising, what happened to the easy says of firewire and my MiniDV camcorder?

    Thanks,
    John

Came across your comment while researching AVC. Don’t know if this will help, but check out the Workflow listed at Apple: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305997

I am having a similar problem as John but except I have a panasonic AG-HMC41E HD AVCCAM and every time I try and log and transfer, Final cut unexpectedly closes. I am using a USB2.0 cable to connect from the camcorder to my Mac.

    Thanx
