Flexing VFX Muscles for Ford

VFX house Speedshape, agency Team Detroit and director Mark Romanek of Anonymous Content came together to create a virtual city in the new campaign for Ford’s new Flex SUV. Watch the “Making of” video to see how Speedshape approached and executed these two commercials.
Production notes:
  • Virtually all the timing and composition of these two spots were worked out in pre-vis where Romanek worked with Speedshape’s creative director John Allardice on the animation and camera angles.
  • These pre-vis dailies went to editor Michael Heldman of Spotwelders who pieced together the offline content to the music composed by SqueakEClean so that the spots were essentially approved and structured before any live-action or CG rendering commenced.
  • All live action elements were shot with the Red One camera.
  • Speedshape used Maya for the CG work and Nuke for compositing. It also provided DI services with Assimilate Scratch.

Watch the video below where Speedshape VFX supervisor Rob Nederhorst explains the process.
