The Budget Viewer, Which Needs No Computer, Targets On-set Productions and Live Events

Matrox Video Products Group has begun shipping its MicroQuad SDI-to-HDMI multiviewer announced at NAB earlier this year. Since its debut in April, Matrox has added several new features, including VU meters on the HDMI output (for a quick look at audio levels), a Windows-based program that controls the unit via a USB Type B cable, and customizable labels. The company will demonstrate MicroQuad at IBC on stand 7.B29. It is available through authorized dealers for a list price of $995/€799/£649.

MicroQuad lets users monitor up to four SDI inputs, whether 3G or HD or SD, on a single HDMI display in quadrant view, without the need for an additional computer hookup. The built-in 10-bit scaling engine with advanced filtering ensures clean views—from which you can toggle back to full-screen view at any time—without artifacts.

Acknowledging third-party interest from those who want to embed the remote-control option into their own software, Matrox has also added a development library since the product was first shown at NAB.

Charles Amyot, product manager at Matrox, said connecting with customers in Las Vegas and after was particularly important to the development of this product. "We listened to their feedback and added the additional features they requested, yet retained the original breakthrough price point," he said in a statement.
