Kata Bags has introduced the latest addition to its line of lightweight, go-anywhere Pro-Light Series DSLR camera bags. The Revolver-8 PL (above left) is a streamlined backpack with divided, protected space inside for a camera (even with the lens attached), up to five different backup lenses and a 70-200 zoom lens.

Like other bags in the series, multiple zippered compartments give shooters fast access to lenses for quick changes on location. What makes this bag unique is you can have at any of those lenses without dropping the bag—or yourself—to the ground. The side-zippered lens compartments are linked by a single rotating axis that you spin to find the lens you need.

Those features recently brought the Revolver 8-PL a 2012 International Design Excellence Award Bronze Medal and 2012 Red Dot Award for exceptional product design. The bag will begin shipping in September.

The Revolver joins the Pro-Light 3N1 family of bags, introduced last year and shown at NAB 2012. What began as a sling backpack for Kata's hobbyist market evolved into the Pro-Light 3N1-25 and 3N1-35 bags (above right) that include room for a DSLR with battery pack and long-range zoom attached, five or six lenses, a 15-inch laptop and additional personal gear. Those bags also received a Red Dot Award this year. The 3N1-25 PL lists for $219.99; the 3N1-35 PL for $264.99 (about $200 street).
