Richter/Stahl Family Takes

Robert Arnold — whose surname puts the "AR" in ARRI — is selling his 50 percent ownership stake in Munich-based ARRI, the company said this week.

Arnold, the son of ARRI co-founder August Arnold, is selling his share of the company to the grandchildren of co-founder Robert Richter. After the sale, ARRI will be owned entirely by the Richter/Stahl family.

The Stahl name comes from Richter's son in law, Walter Stahl, who took over the management of ARRI with Robert Arnold in 1977, the same year the company opened its U.S. subsidiary. In a press release, ARRI said its operations will be "the sole responsibility of the Richter/Stahl family."

ARRI has offices in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Italy, Australia, Hong Kong, and — with the opening of its newest location in Beijing earlier this year — mainland China. The company has a network of rental offices with locations in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, London, Munich, Berlin, Cologne, Leipzig, Vienna, Budapest, and Prague.
