FirstCom SoundFX Collects More Than 33,000 Pre-Cleared Sound Effects

At NAB, FirstCom Music is officially launching a new site, FirstCom SoundFX, in conjunction with sound editor Rob Nokes (Bones, Snow White and the Huntsman, Battleship).

The site will offer FirstCom's production clients access to a new library of more than 33,000 pre-cleared sound effects gathered by Nokes. The company said his search for authentic and unusual audio has led him to travel extensively, building a massive library as he goes.

"Over the past few years, I have recorded fireworks in the Punta Del Este harbor in Uruguay, tropical fish in Saipan, spelunking the caves of Tinian, World War II planes, a Stuart Tank, spelunking the Christmas Caves in the Czech Republic, numerous monasteries in Prague, a WWII concentration camp, the steppes of Kazakhstan for indigenous voices and music, Chilean racetracks, the L.A. morgue, go-karts, modified cars, numerous dogs, football games, college basketball, junk yards, F-18 jets, and a lot more," Nokes said in a prepared statement. "Now I am excited to partner with FirstCom Music and to bring thousands of my best sound effects to the FirstCom SoundFX library."

FirstCom said the new site includes search by keyword and category, the ability to sort results by description, number of channels, sound duration, and bit depth and sample rate. Audio preview is available on mouse hover, and a waveform visualization will be visible for all audio files. Downloads will be enabled in single-file and batch modes.

A launch party for FirstCom SoundFX has been slated for 3 p.m. Monday, April 8, in the FirstCom Music Booth (SL 5820).
