Say goodbye to Quantel and say hello to Snell Advanced Media — or, as the new combination of the former Quantel and Snell organizations now refers to itself, SAM.
The Quantel name remains in evidence on the Quantel Rio color and finishing systems it's known for, but Quantel as a separate company is no more.
"In the five months since NAB, we have radically overhauled and brought together every aspect of the two busiensses to create a new company with a unique mix of experience and energy," said SAM CEO Tim Thorsteinson in a prepared statement. "All our staff are fully committed to the new company and are putting in supreme efforts to deliver on the vision."
At NAB, SAM showed a new Quantel Rio line-up with three turnkey systems (2K, 4K, and 8K) and two software-only versions: 4K and the Rio Assist "workflow partner" for prep, conform and previs work. The latest software update includes support for Rec. 2020, DCI-P3 and ACES color, plus HDR capabilities with ST 2084 support.
