London-based camera light and battery manufacturer PAG has introduced a new four-position charger, the PAGlink PL16+, for its snap-on, rechargeable PAGlink Gold Mount lithium-ion batteries. With the new device, four linked PAGlink 94 Wh Li-ion batteries can be fully charged in less than six hours, and up to 16 batteries can be charged in under 24 hours.

PAGlink Gold Mount batteries, made for those using Anton Bauer's Gold Mount plates, were launched by the company in 2014. PAG's intelligent PAGlink system turns the compact batteries — popular for being smaller and lighter but with a higher energy density than other similar batteries — into interlocking and hot-swappable clusters of power for cameras, lights and camera add-ons. Like the company's PAGlink V-mount batteries, the Gold Mount batteries are designed to let cinematographers and broadcast operators extend run times or handle high-resolution shoots by combining two or more batteries on the camera at once. At 94 watt hours, they are also certified to clear the International Air Transport Association and the United Nations restrictions imposed in January 2015 on Li-ion batteries with capacities greater than 100 watt hours.

Aimed at rental companies and location shoots, the new 3.5-pound PAGlink PL 16+ intelligent charger is equally lightweight and portable, doing the work that multiple chargers had done on location or in the studio in the past. The charger uses available current to recharge linked batteries efficiently and will only charge until full capacity is reached. It also automatically recovers deeply discharged batteries. The PAGlink PL 16+ lists for £496, or about $747.
