Jaunt said today that its Jaunt One 24G VR camera will be available for rent exclusively through Los Angeles rental house Radiant Images.

One of the few off-the-shelf VR acquisition systems to emerge in the fast-growing market, the Jaunt One 24G incorporates 24 camera modules with 1/1.2-inch global-shutter sensors rated at 10 stops of dynamic range. The individual lenses have a 130-degree field of view and a fixed aperture of f/2.0, Jaunt said. The camera captures at up to 120 fps with an output resolution of 8Kx4K per eye.

Jaunt's VR solution also incorporates proprietary cloud-based tools to stitch and render stereo VR experiences, which can be published via the Jaunt VR app.

"Jaunt One is a production-tested camera that we are thrilled to be opening to the public through this rental program with Radiant Images," said Jaunt VP of Hardware Engineering Koji Gardiner in a prepared statement. "Radiant is the perfect partner to enable broader access to our technology, and their expertise in the VR space makes them a great resource for filmmakers eager to explore VR as a new storytelling medium."

The tie-up between Radiant and Jaunt was described as a "pilot program." There was no word on how long Radiant Images has the Jaunt One as an exclusive.

Radiant Images is hosting a demo day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, with representatives from Jaunt, Nokia (representing the Nokia OZO VR camera system), and Dysonics Audio (which makes the 360-degree RondoMic). Registration for the event is limited to 100 RSVPs.

Jaunt, headquartered in Palo Alto, CA, was founded in 2013. In-house production operation Jaunt Studios was launched last spring. The company's investors include The Walt Disney Company, China Media Capital, Google Ventures, The Madison Square Garden Company and Sky.
