It's not really a tutorial, strictly speaking, but this epic (nine-page!) thread at cinematography.com is packed full of useful information for anyone considering shooting 35mm film, especially if the goal is a highly saturated, retro look.
M. David Mullen, ASC, goes long on his work shooting The Love Witch, a pastiche of Technicolor drama, erotic occult thriller, and more from writer-director-editor Anna Biller. The result is a very modern, deliberately campy take on sex and gender roles with a look that's part Douglas Sirk and part Hammer Horror.
Mullen explains, in detail, all of the decisions — film stock, lighting, filtration, and more — that went into getting the look just right. The thread at cinematography.com contains nothing objectionable, but be warned that the film trailer below is partly NSFW.
