360-degree camera maker Z Cam and post-production software vendor Assimilate hooked up at NAB 2017, announcing a new integrated VR bundle designed to address workflow from acquisition through finishing and delivery.

The new end-to-end workflow begins with capture using the Z Cam S1 360-degree camera. Assimilate Scratch VR Z is used on set for live preview and dailies, managing data through a direct connection to the camera via Ethernet. Scratch VR Z now incorporates WonderStitch optical-flow technology from Z Cam for stitching the spherical image together before editing, color-grading, compositing, audio mixing and finishing take place. Finally, Assimilate’s tools can publish the program online or to different 360 platforms.

The companies said the workflow can also support live streaming, with real-time insertion and compositing of graphical overlays and keying for a Facebook Live 360 program.

“By partnering with Z CAM to develop and deliver the first integrated VR workflow, we’ve eliminated the hassles of working in a new technology,” said Assimilate CEO Jeff Edson in a prepared statement. “Ease-of-use and affordability are now factors in the VR equation, which will drive the growth of VR productions, making VR/360 content a ubiquitous way to experience the world.”

The Z Cam S1/Scratch VR Z bundle includes the S1 camera with lens protector, battery unit, power adapter, and power connection cables; a single Z Cam Wonderstitch software license; and a permanent license of Scratch VR Z with one year of support and updates. It’s priced at $4,999.
