Gun Violence Campaign from BBDO NY and Smuggler's Henry-Alex Rubin Leads Association of Independent Commercial Producers Honors

New York production company Smuggler took six honors in the Association of Independent Commercial Producers (AICP) Awards, including five for “Evan” for nonprofit organization Sandy Hook Promise.

Directed by Henry-Alex Rubin for agency BBDO New York, “Evan” uses careful picture compositions and misdirection to highlight the difficulty of spotting warning signs that may lead to a school shooting. The ad won AICP’s Best in Show award for a single commercial, as well as awards for concept, direction, PSA, and Next/Cause Marketing.

Smuggler’s sixth win came for the Squarespace spot “John Malkovich’s Journey,” which earned cinematography honors for DP Chayse Irwin.

Nike’s Unlimited You, which included three spots directed by Max Malkin of L.A./London’s Prettybird for Wieden+Kennedy, received Best in Show honors for a campaign.

Prettybird was also cited for its music video for Coldplay’s “Up & Up,” which was directed by Vania Heymann and Gal Muggia.

Meanwhile, in the forward-looking AICP Next Awards, Best in Show went to Lockheed Martin’s “The Field Trip to Mars,” produced by Framestore for agency McCann New York. A $5,000 grant from the AICP Foundation was directed to the Washington, D.C., chapter of Girls Inc. on behalf of the winners.
