Catering to the growing base of users who need to perform HDR transforms as quickly and easily as 2K/4K conversions, AJA is now shipping the FS-HDR ($7,995), a rack-mounted converter and frame synchronizer for real-time HDR and WCG processing of 4K, UHD, 2K and HD signals.
Debuted at NAB as a technology preview, the FS-HDR runs AJA’s existing frame-sync technology alongside the Colorfront Engine’s video- and color-space-processing algorithms, which have been licensed by AJA from Colorfront.

FS-HDR arrives at a prime time, providing the flexibility to convert between HDR and SDR standards and formats, without extra bandwidth or an infrastructure overhaul,” said AJA President Nick Rashby in a prepared statement. “Working with Colorfront, we’ve engineered a solution for HDR/WCG workflows that makes it easy to adapt to an extensive range of scenarios in the field.”
In single-channel mode, the FS-HDR can up-, down- and cross-convert a wide variety of signals, including downconversion from 4K/UHD HDR to HD HDR or SDR in real time, AJA said. In four-channel mode, it can simultaneously apply up to four HDR/SDR transforms to an incoming 2K or HD signal, or to four separate incoming 2K or HD signals.
