The Canadian operations of Method Studios and Encore have a new boss, as parent Deluxe Entertainment Services Group names Steve Garrad head of studio, Vancouver. Garrad will report to Ed Ulbrich, president of Deluxe VFX.
“He’s well respected and well liked in the Vancouver creative community and across the industry,” said Ulbrich in a prepared statement. “There are very few people who have his breadth of experience, and we’re thrilled to have him lead our Vancouver studio.”
Garrad’s most recent credit was as VFX producer for Warner Bros. on the upcoming Jason Statham vehicle The Meg. Previously, he was executive VFX producer at Double Negative — the company’s first employee in Vancouver, where jobs included The Mummy and Star Trek Beyond. His career also includes stints at Image Engine, Clear, and Cinesite. An Emmy and Leo award nominee for SGU Stargate, Garrad sits on the Visual Effects Society board of directors in Vancouver.
Recent projects at Method’s Vancouver studio include Avengers: infinity War, Black Panther, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Recent jobs at Encore Vancouver have included A Series of Unfortunate Events, Altered Carbon, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow.
