Blackmagic Design says it has overhauled the audio performance of its Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, among other improvements implemented in the newest Blackmagic Camera 6.1 firmware.

The update tackles the audio noise floor on the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K through sound-analysis techniques that produce quieter recordings than before, Blackmagic said. Latency when monitoring audio has been reduced, audio and video sync has been “fine tuned,” and the interface for selecting 3.5mm audio input has been made more “intuitive” and faster to use, the company added.

Also new in v6.1: faster, more accurate auto-focus; a new media card-formatting interface redesigned to make it harder to accidentally erase all files on a card; a new in-camera “pixel calibration” feature designed to correct changes in brightness in different photosites; frame guides for monitoring a 2:1 aspect ratio; and a 10-15% extension of battery life.

The v6.1 firmware is a free download from the Blackmagic Design website.
