Signing on with a Guillermo del Toro project typically means working with creatures. Lots of them. Hellboy II: The Golden Army is populated by even more numerous otherworldly monsters than its predecessor, and some of the critters only appear in a shot or two. According to Eamonn Butler, animation supervisor for the project at London’s Double Negative, that amounted to a huge challenge — but it was made easier by del Toro’s ability to communicate clearly with the VFX crew, using common reference points to get everyone on the same mental page.

What a blast Hellboy II was!
Entertaining, witty and action packed. The blockbuster of the summer by far.One thing is for sure; Del Toro is a rarity. He is taking storytelling to a whole new level. No wonder he is co-writing the 'Hobbit'.

While the canvas was much broader for 'Hellboy II',I think that the film resonates alot more with the audience. Del Toro meticulously pulls off the fine balancing act of substituting less action; for more dramatic impact and emotional conflict.
Definate reinvention of genre !
