Tiger Technology will showcase two storage and
networking solutions. The
MetaSAN
management software solution that supports
Digidesign Pro Tools, Windows 64-bit OS and volumes up to 18 exabytes
in size. It also unveils
stoneGate,
a virtual file system that enables raw image sequences stored on
Autodesk Media and Entertainment Stone file system to be manipulated
using standard graphics and animation workstations over a regular LAN
connection. stoneGate exploits the Wiretap API to convert the
hierarchical structure of the Stone’s Clip Library into a virtual file
system that maps as a local drive on the client’s workstation. Users
can remotely browse through multiple Machines, Volumes, Projects,
Libraries, and Clip folders to access the individual frames. These are
exposed as standard graphic files (RAW, BMP, TIFF, DPX, and Cineon)
that can then be read or written using standard graphics, animations,
paint, editing, and compositing applications such as Adobe After
Effects, Adobe Photoshop, and Autodesk Combustion.
To address the issue of archiving and retrieval of large amounts of
data, Quantum will show its SDLT 600A tape drive
technology and the SuperLoader 3A for workflows with larger storage
requirements. Both feature a tape-based file system, gigabit Ethernet
connectivity and MXF-aware capabilities which are catalysts for the
migration to an end-to-end file-based workflow. These scaleable archive
solutions offer 300 GB to 4.8 TB of removable networked storage.

Released at NAB 2006, Omneon MediaGrid storage
system gets its European debut at IBC. The MediaGrid
system provides centralized shared storage that is scalable in
capacity, bandwidth, and media processing power. At IBC2006, Omneon
will also introduce the next version of its
ProBrowse proxy generation and management system
that adds significant enhancements for media management and video
processing. ProBrowse 2.0 now incorporates intelligent scene change
detection, automatically creating picons, or key frames, at each scene
change. These picons contain an exact timecode reference allowing users
to jump to the beginning of any desired scene in the clip or use the
timecode values to provide a frame-accurate shot list to craft editors.
