Digital motion picture and post-production company PostWorks Los Angeles today announced the hiring of two veteran pioneers of digital technologies for key PostWorks LA staff positions. Effective immediately, PostWorks LA's President Mike Doggett has named Jim Houston as Senior Vice President, Imaging, and Jeff Quinn as Vice President, Engineering.

"Jim is a well known leader in the field of digital imaging technology, and Jeff has been an integral player in helping leading filmmakers and major studios leverage the world's most advanced technologies," Doggett said. "Jim and Jeff will play key roles as we continue to develop future looking digital solutions on behalf of our customers. We are very proud to welcome each of them aboard."

Jim Houston brings over 25 years of experience as a pioneer in the application of digital imaging technology and computer graphics to his new position with PostWorks LA. He began his career in 1986 at Walt Disney Feature Animation as a Technology Guru and ultimately a Senior Technical Director. At Disney, his development of the first digital production system for animated features earned him a 1992 Academy Science and Engineering Award. Over the years that followed, he held positions as VP Digital Production for Sony Pictures Imageworks (where he helped to grow the company during its first 20 visual effects and animation projects), Digital Effects Supervisor and Head of CGI for Pacific Ocean Post, and Producer and Head of Film Projects for Mainframe Entertainment. At Pacific Title and Art Studios, during the company's transition to digital offerings, Houston was Head of Image Quality and Digital Mastering, where he developed proprietary color management, DI, digital cinema mastering, digital subtitling and captioning capabilities - as well as a digital YCM archival separation process which in 2007 earned him his second Academy Science and Engineering Award.

Houston is currently the Chair of the Academy of Motion Pictures Image Interchange Framework committee, a project of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Science and Technology Council to improve workflows and color management for digital productions. An active member of ACM SIGGRAPH and the American Society of Cinematographers' Technology Committee, he has also been a key contributor to SMPTE standards projects for more than 20 years.

Jeff Quinn brings over 20 years of post-production engineering expertise to his new position with PostWorks, after spending the past 11 years at Ascent Media fulfilling divisional roles of Chief Engineer, Director of Engineering and other senior engineering positions. His many accomplishments with Ascent include serving as the senior engineering design and implementation team member for the 100,000 square foot Ascent Media Digital Media Distribution Center, which opened in 2006 as the industry's largest, most technologically advanced independent digital post- production network and distribution facility. Quinn specifically oversaw multi-resolution mastering and imaging workflows for the new facility, which consolidated eight existing post-production facilities under one roof.
