Crews Control Flies High with Operation Falcon II

When a seven-day nationwide fugitive roundup, led by the United States Marshals Service (USMS) was scheduled last month, EFX Media, charged with documenting the events for B-roll news coverage, chose Crews Control for its on-location shooting.

Dubbed “FALCON II” (Federal and Local Cops Organized Nationally) the operation, led by the USMS and hundreds of partners from state, local, and other federal agencies, sought to arrest fugitives wanted for committing sexual offenses and crimes of violence against women, children and the elderly, as well as unregistered convicted sex offenders. More than 1,100 violent sexual offenders were arrested in this sweep west of the Mississippi which took 2,100 law enforcement officers from 120 state agencies, 330 county agencies, 312 police departments, 6 foreign law enforcement agencies and 24 other federal agencies.

Crews Control’s TK Productions out of Los Angeles and Athena Productions from San Diego worked with EFX Media on the police ride-alongs in San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles. Crews captured law enforcement executing warrants — taping the officials from local and federal agencies in strategy huddles before each arrest and catching the apprehension in-action.

Tom Oates of EFX Media said that while Crews Control cameramen were out of harm’s way, the day was an exciting “run and gun operation.” With instructions from the USMS general counsel, care was taken to not shoot inside the homes of the fugitives and to avoid the faces of undercover police as part of the operation.

EFX Media used the exciting on-location footage as part of a B-roll package which included statements from victims’ advocates, which was then distributed and aired on news stations across the country. More than 29.5 million viewers caught the televised footage.

“The B-roll package was so successful thanks in part to the trust both the Marshals and I had in our crews.” Oates added. “It was a combination of proper communication and a willingness to work hard – from both the Marshals and our crews.”
