Effects and graphics developer Boris FX is picking up the pieces of the
Media 100 puzzle created by its current owner, Optibase. Boris is set
to acquire all operating assets of Media 100— that is, rights to all
products and technology developed and sold by Media 100 up to this
point, its inventory and assignable contracts. This includes HD and
Media 100 sw systems, as well as Final Effects Complete. Sadly, there
are no plans to continue development of the 844/X editing system, which
was officially discontinued by Optibase in January. Boris FX will also
assume all Customer Technical Support obligations of Media 100; its
newly formed Media 100 Support Division will operate independently as a
Boris FX business unit. Platinum support subscribers and customer phone
and e-mail support will continue uninterrupted, as Boris FX will retain
the existing Media 100 support and quality assurance staff.
According to Boris FX founder and president Boris Yamnitsky, "This
acquisition gives Boris FX a unique opportunity to serve our long-time
customers in this new capacity. Our commitment to Media 100 users [who
use our graphics products] has always been strong and we intend to give
them the first-class support they deserve."
Boris FX will continue purchasing HDX video boards from Optibase, and
support, repair and sales will continue for the Media 100 HD editing
system. There are also plans to release Media 100 sw, a software-only
version of the Media 100 HD. A public beta (a fully functioning version
without FireWire I/O) is currently available for download at
www.media100.com.
Future development of both HD and sw systems will include improved
integration with existing and future Boris FX products. Boris FX will
also continue to develop and support Final Effects Complete, acquired
from Optibase with its associated trademarks, including Studio Effects,
Next Effects and ICE FX.
Final Effects Complete, a cult graphics app with a
long history of ownership, is one of the Media 100 products acquired by
Boris FX.
