Windows 7 Public Beta Is Available Now for Download, Free to Existing Users

Delivering on a promise made in September during IBC, Blackmagic Design has opened up the DaVinci Resolve ecosystem to a wider range of hardware with the release today of the Resolve 8.2 for Windows public beta. The Resolve for Windows beta is available as a free download to all existing users from the Blackmagic Design web site. When the company releases the full shipping version of DaVinci Resolve 8.2 for Windows the software and full support will be included with the Mac OS X version for $995, letting users install on either OS or switch between the two. That option, unique to Blackmagic’s color corrector, saves budget-conscious facilities the added expense of buying multiple versions of the same software. The free DaVinci Resolve Lite will also be available for both Mac OS X and Windows 7.

“This Windows release has happened way sooner than we expected, and the DaVinci engineering team have done an amazing job!” said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design’s CEO, in a prepared statement. “We think this is very exciting because it makes DaVinci Resolve more flexible for customers, and makes it even easier to integrate Resolve color correction into any facility workflow, even when using a wider range of editing and effects software.” A colorist could take advantage of the GPU processing on a Windows desktop computer while in the facility, for example, but could unplug the dongle and plug it right back into a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X on or near set.

Blackmagic also announced in September that a free version of Resolve for Linux software, previously only available for an additional $19,995, was now included in its full Linux control surface package. All three OS versions will be available for the $29,995 Resolve control surfaces.
