TV Pro Gear HD-SDI FlyPak

TV Pro Gear, a Los Angeles systems integrator, has created the multi-camera HD-SDI FlyPak, a customizable mobile production studio designed around the needs of production crews wanting to produce high-definition content at remote locations.

The FlyPak—essentially a mobile studio in a box—is built to withstand the rigors of the road while being compact enough to roll down hallways and be pushed through a standard doorway, elevator or small delivery van. Components of the FlyPak have been chosen from brand name manufacturers including Panasonic, JVC, For-A, AJA, Leader, Edirol, Miranda, and others.

Using TV Pro Gear’s Cambox, the FlyPak can be used with nearly every professional camera on the market. Through a newly designed multi-core cable, the Cambox feeds the camera power, remote, time code, genlock, tally, and intercom while bringing back uncompressed HD/SD and audio. With the combination of the Cambox, the camera control system, and multi-core cable, the unit works at cable lengths of up to 300 feet. A fiber-optic cable option is available for longer cable runs.

The unit has several switcher options, however the company said the most popular choice is the FOR-A HVS-500. This 8-input HD/SD-SDI production switcher supports HD and SD formats and multiple frame rates. It has DSK with chromakey function, two still stores, picture-in-picture, NAM, FAM, 100 different wipe patterns, color-correction, and color-matching.

The standard FlyPak is equipped with a 16-channel audio mixer, which handles the mixing of multiple wireless microphones, camera audio, VTRs, and a stage breakout box. The unit is custom designed to hold cameras, camera reels, tripods, intercom equipment, and miscellaneous cables. This allows the crew to show up at a venue organized and ready to begin work.

A Miranda Technologies screen splitter feeds up to 10 HD/SD SDI images into the 42-inch Panasonic flat panel display while simultaneously displaying tally, time code, camera audio meter, time of day and up and down timer. A Leader LV7700 HD rasterizer tests and monitors every video signal. The Miranda has over 20 pre-settings, which allows unique display layouts for different venues and occasions.

Prices start at $150,000, depending on configuration and equipment choices. For more information, visit www.tvprogear.com.
