HPVIDEO, a maker of motion-picture production equipment, has incorporated Fast Forward Video’s board-level Recon DVR board-level digital video recorder (DVR) into its new Briefcase portable video playback system.

FFV’s Recon DVR is an ultra-compact video recording system designed for OEM applications. It provides integrated recording capabilities in HPVIDEO’s new Briefcase, a portable, dual-camera HDD video assist system that enables motion picture personnel to play out and view a scene before committing it to film. The Briefcase provides built-in intercom capabilities, dual tuners, and dual 7-inch touch-screen monitors, and enables playback on up to four external monitors.
HPVIDEO designed the briefcase system to provide all of the built-in video assist capabilities that even complex, large-scale productions might require in a single portable package. The company said the key to miniaturization is the Recon DVD recorder.
Using motion-JPEG compression on the digital video outputs, the Recon recorder is optimized for a variety of live production and other events. The recorders can be worn on the body and are suited for extreme environments such as aircraft, racecars, space shuttles, helicopters, and military applications.
The Recon recorder, with models that record in both standard and high-definition video, features discrete access to each frame, NTSC/PAL compatibility, user-selectable motion-JPEG compression ratios, PC viewable files, low power consumption, time-lapse recording, and extraordinary image quality.
