Pioneers of MTV's The Real World Say Keeping Up with Content Means Switching to Media Composer 6 and Symphony 6 Moving Forward

L.A.’s Bunim/Murray Productions, who many credit with defining a new era of reality programming on television, has announced that all of its 2012 shows, including Keeping Up with the Kardashians and Project Runway, will be cut on Avid Media Composer 6 and Symphony 6. The new NLE pipeline will replace Final Cut Pro systems currently in use at the company. Bunim/Murray is also turning to Avid for its network needs and will connect its editorial and other departments with an Avid ISIS 5000 shared storage system.
Dealer Key Code Media helped Bunim/Murray complete the new, or more aptly, renewed relationship with Avid. In a prepared statement, Bunim/Murray’s senior vice president of post production Mark Raudonis said the decision to switch came after considering the sheer volume of content the facility generates, as well as long-term workflow needs. “As we talked with Avid, it was clear that the company has really forged ahead since we worked with them years ago,” he said. “Their commitment to the needs of their professional customers, like us, is clear. And, with the introduction of Media Composer 6, they really raised the bar and have a vision for the future that makes them the right choice for our business.”

More specifically, Redounis cited a built-in benefit of moving to an all-Avid pipeline. “With the Avid Open I/O, we won’t need to change out any of the hardware from our existing editing stations. Instead it’s just a software install.” Bunim/Murray has always used Pro Tools, he added, and hopes to “save time and gain added efficiencies through Media Composer and Pro Tools interoperability.”

According to its web site, Bunim/Murray is now casting for the 27th consecutive production of The Real World, which it first produced for MTV in 1992.
