IMAGICA Corp.announced today a Wetgate solution for its Imager XE® Advanced Plus 4K film scanners. IMAGICA's Imager XE Advanced Plus is the only film scanner available on the market that will allow customers to leverage Wetgate technology to produce clean film transfers.

Wetgate is an industry-proven method of helping eliminate the effects of scratches, digs and other imperfections when transferring, restoring or printing film. It uses a chemical, fluid-based process to fill imperfections on the film negative to produce a clean scan that requires little or no digital clean up.

IMAGICA has successfully developed Wetgate-enabled solutions in the past, including the company's Multi-Format Optical Wetgate Printer, which won a Scientific and Technical Academy Award®. The 35mm Wetgate will be available as an option for the Imager XE Advanced Plus product line.

"The IMAGICA Imager XE Advanced Plus is the only scanner on the market that gives film and post-production clients the option of using a Wetgate," said Makoto Tsukada, Managing Executive Officer, Engineering Solutions Division, IMAGICA Corp. "Whereas automated digital cleanup methods are still largely unproven and unreliable, Wetgate is a well-established technology customers may already be equipped for and can rely on day to day. As demand increases for the restoration and re-mastering of classic films, our customers will be able to reduce dust and scratch removal costs with robust results."

The 35mm Wetgate for Imager XE Advanced Plus is already in operation at several facilities, including IMAGICA's high-end post-production facility in Japan.

The Imager XE Advanced Plus is a true 4K scanner offering fast scanning of 4K material with optional resolution capability up to 8K. Equipped with a custom-designed tri-linear CCD camera system, including 14-bit AD conversion with 16-bit image processing, the Imager XE Advanced Plus represents a full density range of color negative.
