IRIDAS, who introduced the first non-destructive color grading application in 2003, will unveil SpeedGrade OnSet 2007 at the Cine-tal booth at IBC this week. The new version of IRIDAS' look creation application adds live controls for the Cine-tal display, support for the Tangent BK200 trackball panel, and a new FrameCycler launch button for instant playback of sequences with grading applied. Combined with the ability to output .Look files and third-party LUTs, such as Filmlight LUTs and LUTher tables, SpeedGrade OnSet offers a complete solution for developing, and communicating creative looks at any stage in the filmmaking process.

"The primary advantage of SpeedGrade OnSet is that now I'm in control of the image," said cinematographer Dan Mulligan of Rogue Element Films in the UK. "I no longer have to waste time trying to solve problems over the phone with someone who is looking at something totally different."

The new live controls for Cine-tal display provide an integrated monitoring and look management environment for production work. SpeedGrade OnSet 2007 grabs frames from Cine-tal's Cinemage display at the push of a button. The frame is used as the basis for a new look, or to test and modify existing looks. The resulting .Look file is sent back to the Cinemage display via the network and applied to the live HD-SDI stream. From there, SpeedGrade OnSet's new live controls allow the user to fine-tune the look further from their laptop while watching the results in the calibrated Cinemage display. All changes are saved automatically in the .Look file.

"The combination of the Cine-tal Cinemage monitor and SpeedGrade OnSet maximizes creative freedom in production for color pre-visualization," said Rob Carroll, CEO of Cine-Tal Systems, Inc.

"I use SpeedGrade OnSet every day with a Cine-tal monitor to review my images," said Dan Mulligan, whose company rents Viper cameras with SpeedGrade OnSet. "I go through my shots each evening and check them with the .Looks we want. It gives me a quick way to confirm my lighting and exposure and ensure that we have the data we need for postproduction."

Support for the Tangent BK200 trackball panel puts high-end input controls into the hands of the cinematographer. "The Tangent panel is great news for SpeedGrade OnSet users," said Mulligan. "It will give me additional accuracy when applying very fine adjustments - which I do often."

SpeedGrade OnSet 2007 runs on Mac OS X (10.4) and Windows XP laptops and workstations. SpeedGrade OnSet 2007 costs $599 USD per seat and will be available for sale and trial download on Sept 20, 2007.

Visitors to IBC can see SpeedGrade OnSet 2007 with the Cinemage display and the Tangent BK 200 control panel at the Cine-tal booth (7.940c). www.speedgrade.com
