Do you shoot underwater? Do you ever want to take the same lighting kit into the deep that you might use aboveground? Of course that's not practical in every case, but you can take your Litepanels with you. Working with underwater-shooting specialist HydroFlex, Litepanels has developed SeaSun, a new series of underwater housings.
Litepanels said its LED lights can be well-suited to underwater photography because of their compact form factor and low power requirements, making them easy for divers to carry through the water and allowing battery packs to be carried along with the fixtures for untethered operation. And because the Litepanels generate less heat than many underwater lights, they don't have to be turned off before being taken out of the water for fear of damage to the housing.
The company also says that panchromatic LEDs work well underwater, as a supplement to ambient sunlight that's been filtered through the water, because of their even color spectrum.
SeaSun fixtures work with Litepanels 1x1 and MicroPro designs. The 1x1s come in standard, bi-color, and bi-focus models. The MicroPro runs on six AA batteries, and can output light continuously for up to five hours on the right lithium-ion batteries, the company said. The aluminum-and-plexiglass housings are watertight to a depth of 100 feet.
