Marshall Electronics Portable Monitors Go OLED

Three New Units Offer Low Power Consumption and Improved Image Characteristics

Marshall Electronics introduced what it says are the world's first portable (7.6-inch) OLED camera-top and field monitors, the V-OL761-HDA, the V-OL761-HDMI, and the V-OL761-3GSDI.

Marshall says the new technology delivers broader ranges of colors, gamut, contrast, and brightness compared to CRT, LCD and LED screens, with a 170-degree viewing angle, low power consumption (OLED screens don't require a backlight to function) and fast pixel response time.

All three models have a digital TFT-MegaPixel LCD screen, a four-pin XLR power jack, and polycarbonate scrteen protection. The V-OL761-HDA offers composite and component inputs, the V-OL761-HDMI adds HDMI to the mix, and the V-OL761-3GSDI model offers 3G-SDI (3 Gb/second), HD-SDI and SDI inputs as well as composite and component.

The three monitors also include new filters from Marshall. The false color filter changes elements of the image based on luminance or brightness values as the iris is adjusted. The peaking filter switches to a monochrome image but displays red where sharp edges occur on screen. As the camera operator racks focus, different parts of the image will go red around the edges, indicating which areas are in focus. They also support up to nine different battery configurations for field operation, seven of which can be swapped out by end users.

Prices will ultimately depend on battery configuration, but the V-OL761-HDA will list for $2099 and will be the first to ship later this year. The V-OL761-HDMI will list for $2199 and the V-OL761-3GSDI for $2399 shortly afterward.
