Sony is expanding its HD production line-up to include a handheld (HVR-Z7U) and a larger shoulder-mount (HVR-S270U) camcorder. The latter features three 1/3-inch CMOS chips and records simultaneously to full-size DV cassettes and compact flash media. Both cameras have interchangeable Zeiss lens systems and can switch between 1080p, 1080i in the HDV format, DVCAM, and DV recording. The handheld has an HDMI output; the shoulder-mount is available with HD-SDI or SD-SDI connectivity and also supports embedded audio and timecode. Both are expected to ship in February. $10,500 (HVR-S270U); $6,850 (HVR-Z7U).
