New York visual effects studio Guava announced today that Jep Hill joined the company’s innovative 3D department. With more than a dozen years working in Hollywood as a compositor, lighting and scripting technical director, sequence supervisor, and cg supervisor, Hill enters Guava as a visual effects supervisor.

Hill will leverage his professional experience to explore and launch exciting next generation technology systems, including photo-realistic and photo accurate rendering. Hill will focus on helping to streamline and enhance Guava’s current production pipeline to become stronger, more scalable, and efficient.

Most recently with Sony Pictures Imageworks (SPI), Hill worked on a high-profile collaboration with Pixar to improve all aspects of Renderman; most notably the implementation of fast point occlusion and indirect illumination approximation functionality. At Sony, he operated as a core member of the facility production pipeline standards committee, and 2D and 3D proprietary software standards and development councils. He conceived and authored automated shot assembly and assignment tools for Haunted Mansion and Polar Express, in addition to creating the “One-Touch” rendering and pipeline automation tool used as a facility standard on all SPI projects (since Matrix Reloaded and Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers).

Hill was a CG Supervisor for the upcoming movie, Beowolf. He has also worked on blockbusters including Castaway, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Matrix Reloaded, Matrix Revolutions, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Polar Express, Seabiscuit, and Stuart Little 2.

Guava is excited to welcome Jep to the team and to begin employing his talent and expertise in the craft of 3D.
