Creative editor Scott Simmons has joined Filmworkers Club, Nashville. Simmons accepted a staff post after spending the past eight years as a freelancer. As such, he compiled an impressive and eclectic list of regional and national credits that includes commercials, television programming, music videos and corporate media.

In his first project for Filmworkers, Simmons edited Rock the Boat, a 2-hour music special for the Gospel Music Channel related to the release of the film Evan Almighty. He also worked on a new ad campaign for the restaurant chain Fazoli’s and Lexington, Kentucky agency Meridian Communications.

Simmons is not entirely new to Filmworkers Club. He has worked through the facility on a freelance basis on several projects dating back to 1999. Bringing him into a staff position will help Filmworkers Club keep pace with the growth of its business, according to Anne Popper, the facility’s operations manager. “Our other editors, Adam Little and Jim Morris, are always booked,” Popper explained. “A third editor will help us to continue to meet our clients’ need. Scott knows the market and the market knows him. So, it’s a great fit.”

A Tennessee native, Simmons studied film production and graphic design at Watkins Film School Nashville, television production at the University of Tennesee and graphic design at State Technical Institute in Memphis. He began his career with Media Post, Nashville, and became a freelancer in 1999. Since then, his credits include music videos for such artists as Kenny Rogers, Kenny Chesney, Ronnie Milsap and Rodney Atkins, commercials for the Kentucky Lottery, Lextran and Terraquest, and television programs for CMT, Nickelodeon, Great American Country, Speed, HGTV, Gospel Music Channel and ABC Sports.

In discussing his move to Filmworkers, Simmons said it was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up. “It will give me access to greater resources and a chance to work on projects that I couldn’t do as a freelancer,” Simmons said. Simmons will primarily work on an Avid system at Filmworkers, but he is also fully skilled in FinalCut Pro.
