Production studio Digital Domain recently put a twist on a familiar scenario. You know the one, where we’re desperately trying to create something brilliant and yet come up with nothing. Piles of crumbled paper accumulate on the floor as we continue to toss bad ideas that don’t quite make the cut. In Digital Domain’s version, a spot produced for Pepsi-Cola’s new Amp energy drink, those rejected concepts transform into mythical paper creatures and attack their creator.
Ad agency BBDO tapped Director Dante Ariola of MJZ to work with Digital Domain. The Venice, CA-based studio, in turn, assigned Fred Raimondi special effects supervisor and, with a fast-approaching deadline, asked him to hit the ground running.
Raimondi used Lightwave, Flame and Maya on the project and came up with an impressive piece that blends CG with live action—“Paper” is already receiving lots of attention.
Raimondi recently discussed how he and his team gave life to Pepsi’s unique concept.

Raimondi created paper models, or "maquettes," and placed them in various scenarios around the office

>It often goes something like this: “I’d really >like to have a horse kick a football,”
Fred, this wouldn't be the famous Budweiser Clydesdale spot? Lots of tricky roto on that one.
Congratulations on AMP. As always, the work looks great!
