Target Apps
This is a full post production environment that’s designed to handle video at all resolutions and create serious graphics and soundtracks. It’s a sophisticated set of programs, but given the price point, it will be used for everything from high-end features to mobile phone videos and YouTube uploads.
WHhat It Costs You
$1,299 for the full package; $499 to $699 for upgrades
What's Cool
ProRes 422, the open-format timeline and Color take this package to a new level, providing great flexibility, regardless of source material or destination
What's Missing

No doubt about it: Apple certainly stole the limelight at this year’s NAB with its greatly anticipated announcement of Final Cut Studio 2. The latest pro video application suite includes substantial upgrades of its central programs: Final Cut Pro 6, Motion 3, Soundtrack Pro 2 and Compressor 3 are the standouts. But new additions, such as a powerful new color-grading program and codec, bring the suite to life.
Access to the last 90 days of content is always free. Paid subscribers can access older stories as part of their membership.
Apple has improved the interface on Soundtrack Pro 2 by combining windows for multitrack and waveform editing.
Apple has made some advancements on Compressor 3, including a new and streamlined interface.
Color
Color adds to Final Cut Studio 2 high-end color correction and color grading tools that are comparable to the best systems out there.
Final Cut Pro
Final Cut Pro’s new ProRes 422 and the Intel-based MacBook Pro make editing HD on a laptop more practical than ever.
Motion
Motion, well liked because of its real-time performance, has loads of new features and is now 3D capable.
