Modify a Title in Avid Xpress Pro/DV while Keeping the Original Intact

Post your comments below

Park the Position Indicator over a title segment in your Timeline (make sure the segment’s track is turned on).

STEP 1: Set your position

STEP 2: Enter your mode

Enter the Effect Mode by clicking the Effect Mode button, or hitting the right-bracket key on your keyboard ("]").

STEP 3: Open the Title tool

In the Effect Editor window, click the Other Options button (the little button to the left of the word "Title").

STEP 4: Make changes to your title

Once inside the Title tool, make any needed changes to your title, then close the tool by clicking the box in the upper-left corner of its window.

STEP 5: Save your new clip

The Save dialog appears—click the Save button and your title is now modified. You’ll find a new title clip in the same bin as your sequence; your original title clip remains intact in its original location. I find this particularly useful for updating slates on my rough-cuts, which tend to change daily. Again, there is always more than one way to skin a cat in Xpress Pro/DV—but the more you know the better, and the better you can make the machine work for you!
