The Hollywood Post Alliance (HPA) held its 17th annual Tech Retreat in Rancho Mirage, CA, drawing executives, engineers and others to hear about the latest technologies in entertainment and media. Tech Retreat organizer Mark Schubin (pictured above) opened the proceedings with the pronouncement that 2010 is the 24th annual “This is the year of HDTV,” noting that only 63 percent of U.S. households have HDTVs, and that broadcasters are still using analog NTSC pool feeds, not to mention shooting and protecting for 4:3.
