Boutique post house Therapy Studios moved into a new post-production facility on Los Angeles’s Westside that triples the company’s physical size. With the move, Therapy also added an all-new color grading suite, with the intention of offering soup-to-nuts post services, including creative editorial, graphics, finishing, sound design, mix, and color correction.

“We believe the fully-integrated creative post production house is the way of the future,” said executive producer and

partner Joe DiSanto.  “This cohesive collaboration streamlines workflow, which translates to speedier delivery and greater flexibility in budgeting.”

For color grading, Therapy Studio is now equipped with Quantel’s Q-Color grading package, a 2K-projection system, and a 10ft screen (as well as HD and SD broadcast video monitoring), for film, TV and commercial projects.  Most recently, Therapy’s Wren Waters graded work for Saturn, CVS, DTS Sound and the feature documentary Transcendent Man about futurist Ray Kurzweil.

“More and more, our clients see the cost effectiveness and convenience of digital acquisition” said partner John Ramsay.  “We urge agencies to shoot digital or transfer a flat

pass of all their film to an HD format, instead of traditional dailies.  We do a basic color correction at the rough-cut stage for client review, and then do final color grading after we online.  We’ve been able to eliminate the back-and-forth of annoying telecine pick-up shots, which makes our clients lives much easier.”

Some of the company’s latest projects include editing, effects, and sound design for Lakeshore Entertainment features Citizen Game and Crank 2.  Editor Doobie White cut action sequences for both films and a trailer for Citizen Game. Its editorial and design team created a public service campaign for anti-meth use, as well as a music video for Gnarls Barkley’s Run.

DiSanto noted that clients can take advantage of the full-service post or of specific post tasks offered at Therapy.  For a recent Saturn spot, the VFX team was able to use retouching to reflect recent model changes, repurposing several existing commercials and saving a lot of money.

Other recent projects for the company include work for KIA, Sony Playstation, Activision and PBS.  Therapy is also co-producing and providing all the creative post for the documentary Transcendent Man, directed by Barry Ptolemy, which was recently accepted into the  Tribeca Film Festival.
