Group Cites His Work on Terminator 2, Magnolia, and The Soloist

Paul Babin, SOC, toplines the 2012 Lifetime Achievement Awards of the Society of Camera Operators, to be handed out on Sunday, February 19, at the ATAS Goldenson Theater in North Hollywood. Babin will receive the group’s award for Lifetime Achievement as Camera Operator.

Babin’s IMDb resume is an impressive list that notes his work on films including The Abyss, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, True Lies, Magnolia, National Treasure, and U2 3D, not to mention television shows including CSI: Miami, House M.D., and NCIS.

Zoran Veselic (Moneyball, The Muppets, Men in Black, Spider-Man) will receive the Lifetime Achievement as Camera Technician award, while dolly grip Harry Rez (Doogie Howser, M.D., Providence, Nashville) will get the award for Lifetime Achievement as Mobile Camera Platform Operator. Andrew E. Cooper, SMPSP, has been named winner of the Lifetime Achievement as Motion Picture Stills Photographer award for his work on the set of films including The Departed, Braveheart, and the Kill Bill movies.

The Lifetime Achievement Award for Distinguished Service to the Motion Picture Industry goes to Sol Negrin, ASC, a leader of IATSE Local 600 as well as a film-school professor and cinematographer (Kojak, The Patty Duke Show, Coming to America).

Nominations for Camera Operator of the Year honors in feature-film and television categories are being accepted now.
