Update Adds Support for HXR-IFR5 Interface Unit

Sony released firmware v1.20 for the AXS-R5 data recorder. In addition to some bug fixes related to recording reliability and the life display for some AXS memory cards, the new update adds support for the HXR-IFR5, which allows 2K and 4K raw recording from the Sony NEX-FS700.

When it announced the IFR5 at NAB last month, Sony said the raw workflow out of the F700, recording 16-bit linear raw files to the R5, would be exactly the same as that for the PMW-F5 and PMW-F55 cameras.

The F700's main competitor for the low end of the 4K market is probably the Blackmagic Production Camera 4K, which is slated to ship in July — Sony's key advantage over the Blackmagic camera is its support for shooting 2K at up to 240 fps and 4K in burst mode at 120fps for about four seconds at a time.
