Conference Offers Special Discount to Unemployed Attendees

In the spring, an industry's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of … SIGGRAPH. With apologies to Tennyson, this week sees the release of the annual Technical Papers Preview trailer, which aims to whet your appetite for the real deal when the computer graphics confab hits the Vancouver Convention Center from August 10 to 14. No fewer than 173 technical papers will be presented in 35 different sessions. (Only one out of four papers submitted has been accepted this year.) Scroll down to watch the teaser video, below.

In other SIGGRAPH news, the conference is officially recognizing that it's hard out there for a visual-effects artist, and is offering discounted registration to currently unemployed members of ACM SIGGRAPH or its parent organization, ACM. If you're between jobs — not self-employed or consulting — you can register for SIGGRAPH at the Student Member rates, which are the lowest available. If you know that you're going and want to start blocking out a timetable for the show, SIGGRAPH has released its Schedule at a Glance, outlining what happens when, on each day of the show.
