Prepackaged Rack-Mount System Designed for HD and 4K/UHD Capture/Playback and Content Management

Cinedeck (New York, NY) and Axle Video (Boston, MA) announced SetMeUp, a new system for on-set workflow that combines Cinedeck's recording and playback expertise with Axle's Gear Pro media-management system.

Delivered in a mobile rack-mount enclosure, SetMeUp combines the Cinedeck ZX modular recording and playback platform, which supports up to four simultaneous recordings and handles transcoding to edit-friendly formats like ProRes and DNxHD, with Axle's browser-based media-management system for cataloging, search, review and approval. Axle Video said users will be able to review captured footage "almost immediately" through the system's browser interface using laptops or mobile devices.

The system is configured with 16 TB of RAID-10 NAS storage, in addition to the 2 TB of onboard SSD storage (configurable up to 8 TB) provided by the Cinedeck ZX. Support gear includes a 12-port Gigabit Ethernet switch for attaching workstations, additional storage, and other equipment such as routers, audio and wireless gear, and a UPS.

SetMeUp supports editorial storage options including Facilis Terrablock, Avid ISIS 5500, SmallTree GraniteStor, and DDP Dynamic Drive Pool disk arrays. Supported archive options include NAS appliances from QNAP and SpectraLogic, LTFS appliances from XenData and LTFS tape libraries from IBM.

The system is being positioned as an inexpensive alternative for live and episodic TV production. "This flexible, streamlined and cost-lowering breakthrough in production-to-post workflow will enable creatives to spend much more time bringing value to the screen and less time wrangling their assets," said Cinedeck founder and CEO Charles D'Autremont in a prepared statement.

SetMeUp start at $59,950 for sale and $8,000/month for rental, with configuration options raising the price accordingly. Lease-to-buy options will also be offered, the companies said.
