Sprocketless, Laser-Registered Design Supports Film Gauges from 8mm to 35mm

Berlin's Korn Manufaktur is debuting a new 4K film scanner, Edeltraud, at IBC 2015 net month. It uses a sprocketless design with laser-based film positioning and supports film gauges of 8mm, 9.5mm, 16mm and 35mm, the company said.

Korn is located in the last operating film lab in Berlin, according to Managing Director Reiner Meyer, where a pre-commercialized version of the Edeltraud is already used to scan both new projects shot on film and archival elements. Korn said it has worked on archival projects for the Republic of Sudan and Guinea-Bissau.

"Edeltraud came to life years ago, and we though that now would be a good time to present this film scanner to a wider market," Meyer said in a prepared statement. "Edeltraud is able to record multiple formats in a very high quality." The scanner outputs to 12-bit raw CinemaDNG.

Film tension is adjustable and an RGBW LED light source allows primary color corrections to be made. Metadata can be recorded via timecode marks during the scan for later use in asset-management applications, the company said.

By the way, in case you're wondering: the company says edel means classy, and traud means powerful.
